7 Tips to Help You Choose a Hypnotherapist in NZ
Unsure about how to choose the right professional for you. Below are some helpful tips on how to make the most of your hypnosis sessions.
1. Hypnotherapy Governing Bodies and Society’s In New Zeleand
There is no compulsory registration body for hypnotherapists in New Zealand. Nor is there any legal requirement needed to use the word hypnotherapist or clinical hypnotherapist, and generally mean the same thing. There are however organisations within New Zealand that hold their members to code of ethics, yearly training hours, and examinations in order to gain professional membership. One of the easiest things you can do is to ensure the hypnotherapist you are considering belongs to both of these organizations. ( Icons below linked to membership directories).

2. What are the success rates?
Every one wants to reassure themselves, that the money they are paying is worthwhile. Unfortunately you cannot be provided with a statistical success rate in NZ. One it is illegal to advertise this information as it breaks a number of advertising standards . Two, it is also illegal to give out testimonials that market the effectiveness of hypnosis(or any alternative therapy in regards to health claims). You are much better off researching the topic on the internet to build up your confidence that hypnosis is the right choice for you, and asking the hypnotherapist their experience regarding the issue.
3. Choose a hypnotherapist that believes in the same things you do?
If you are practically minded ,then choose a hypnotherapist that is logical, practical and goal orientated, this is the approach you would find at my offices Lifestyle Hypnosis . If you are into energy therapies, soul healing or strongly spiritual, then choose a hypnotherapist that has a similar philosophical background an example in NZ would be Mala Hypnotherapy.
4. Am I paying a fare price.
In New Zealand session prices usually range from $80 to $140 for a session time between 45-90 minutes. A low fee usually means mean the therapist is either new, works part time or works from home. A higher fee generally reflects that a therapist works from offices, and has a greater range of experience. Ideally you want to work with some one who has been working full time for at least 3 years. Which would equate to at least 1000 hypnosis sessions with clients.
5. Have you worked with my issue before.”
Most hypnotherapist have worked with clients in regards to quit smoking, nail biting and weight loss. If you are looking for help with issues outside these areas you will want to be asking about their previous experience.
6. “How many sessions will I need?”
Everyone is different and a therapist can’t give a definitive answer, but is usually able to give a range. For instance, in my experience, nail biting can be resolved inas few as one or two sessions. Anxiety issues may involve more sessions, 3 to 6 sessions as multiple issues unfold during the process. Please don’t hold the therapist prisoner to the exact number of sessions they estimate. As your needs unfold during the sessions this may need to be reassessed.
7 “So you have arrived for your hypnosis session. What should happen next to confirm your confidence in your therapist
